Objective:

Description:

Through interesting video(s) and sharing, students will get to know more about seasonal food and its very close relation to environmental protection. At the same time, students will understand the importance of green consumptions.

Sustainable Living (#NewNormal Edition) (UPDATE)

 

Objective:

At the end of the event, students will be able to:    

1. Recognise the environmental, social and economic changes brought by the pandemic;

2. Learn about various green activities and concepts in Hong Kong; and

3. Enhance awareness of greening living and sustainable development.

 

Description:

Online seminars/workshops will be held in March 2021 by the eight member universities of the Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium. Four themes covered, including wellness, energy, food and waste. More information will be made available on the website of the Science Unit in due course. Please stay tuned.

Description:

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Daphne Wong is a wildlife photographer and filmmaker with a passion for everything about nature, especially the small, common and underappreciated species. Daphne strives to tell a story in new angles of a species, an environment, the relationship between the species and its habitat, and humans within the context of nature. Daphne will share her experience in directing and producing this award-winning documentary and give advice to aspiring artists and creators.

「孕途有你」 – 新世代爸媽的故事

Stories of Young Parents of New Generation

 

Objective:

At the end of this session, students will be able to:

1. Understand more about the “Jockey Club Support Project for Parents of New Generation”; and

2. Learn about the difficulties and adaptions of young parents through real-life sharings.

 

Description:

Pregnancy at young ages may bring about tremendous changes to the lives of young women and men.    For young women, pregnancy at their young ages may bring genuine affects towards their studies, work, and relationship with family members and/or peers.  For young men, one may also encounter difficulties in accommodation arrangement and financial burden, which may in turn make them even more difficult for shouldering their roles as fathers.

As supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service – Hong Kong launched the 3-year project namely the “Jockey Club Support Project for Parents of New Generation” (賽馬會新世代爸媽支援計劃) in 2018, for supporting the young parents from the districts Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun who aged 24 years or below.

This project aims at alleviating the pressure that young parents may have encountered, in the hope that any potential crisis can be resolved before worsening further.   It is believed that kids are always precious gifts to parents in every family.  As such, this project aims at facilitating the young parents in strengthening the couple relationship as well as the bonding between family members, in the hope that their kids can be brought up in a caring environment in a long run.

In this sharing session, social worker of the “Jockey Club Support Project for Parents of New Generation” (賽馬會新世代爸媽支援計劃) will share her experiences in supporting in this project.  In addition, young couples will also be invited to share their real-life experiences, which may cover both their difficulties encountered as well as their happy moments attained in nurturing their kids, to the audience.

時光倒流1888 - 嶺南大學 基督教背景起源與故事

Back in 1888 - The Christianity Background and Stories of Lingnan University

 

Objective:

At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

1. Introduce the history and Christian background of Lingnan University;

2. Learn from and be inspired by history, inherit the educational, historical and Christian heritage of Lingnan University.

 

Description:

Lingnan University was established in Guangzhou, moved to Macau, and finally settled in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong.  Back in 1888, there were so many interesting stories that happened between students, teachers and staff at the university, all of which are precious.  The Christian background of Lingnan University made it outstanding among other universities in history.  Speakers are invited to share different parts, both the history and the stories of the university are an attractive hundred-year treasure to be explored, understood and appreciated.

香港人道年獎得獎者分享會 - 無言老師計劃與人道工作的關係

Sharing Session by Awardee of the Hong Kong Humanity Award - "Silent Teachers" Body Donation Programme & Humanitarian Work

 

Objective:

At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

1. Describe the universal value of humanity;

2. Understand the "Silent Teachers" Body Donation Programme; and

3. Help spread the spirit of humanitarianism and facilitate the integration in society.                                                 

 

Description:

The Hong Kong Humanity Award is organized jointly by the Hong Kong Red Cross and Radio Television Hong Kong.  Launched in 2007, it is the very first award of its kind in Hong Kong which aims to give tribute to individuals in society who exemplify the very spirit of humanity by putting it into practice and action.  Through honouring their humanitarian deeds, the organizers hope that more people will know about the universal value of humanity, spreading humanitarianism to all levels of society.  Over the past ten years, more than 70 individuals were commended by the Award. 

The speaker, Mr Pasu Ng, is the awardee of the Hong Kong Humanity Award 2020.  Mr Ng assists in the establishment of "Silent Teachers" (無言老師) body donation programme, which cultivates students' empathy though different ways so they can learn to be responsible towards patients and families and respective lives.  He is also committed to promote life and death education and end-of-life preparation, and to provide support to family members of individuals who die from unnatural causes.  Recently, he has established a social enterprise to provide simple, dignified and affordable “farewell services in hospitals” and related support for low-income families. In this sharing session, the speaker will share his humanitarian works.  All students are cordially invited to join the sharing session!

Be an Effective Game Leader in Community Services

 

Objective:

At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

1. Recognize the effectiveness of games in volunteer services;

2. Understand the basic concepts and effective techniques of games leading; and

3. Elevate the interest and commitment towards volunteerism. 

 

Description:

It is common that games and activities constitute an important component in various volunteer services and are adopted as effective means in connecting volunteers and service targets.  In the hope of maximizing the effectiveness and outcomes in volunteer services, a deeper understanding and a grasp on skills and techniques in game planning and leading is always advantageous.

This programme will delineate:

• The functions and effectiveness of game activities in volunteer services

• The techniques of selecting and arranging suitable games so as to match the needs of the service users

• The steps of games leading

• The ways of enhancing the involvement of participants

• The ways of facilitating games online in virtual activities

With these workshop coverages, it is in the hope that students can be equipped with useful techniques in leading games, which can in turn elevate ones’ confidence and capabilities while participating in various volunteer services.

Sharing Session by Hong Kong Young Ambassador – The Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme

 

Objective:

At the end of the sharing session, students will be able to:

1. Describe the nature and programme details of the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme;

2. Understand the duties of a Hong Kong Young Ambassador and the positive impacts that can be acquired through sharing by the Ambassador; and

3. Encourage the participation towards the Scheme.

 

Description:

The Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme is jointly organised by the Tourism Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.  Since launched in 2001, the Scheme has attracted more than 4,100 young people to participate, who strive to promote Hong Kong’s hospitable culture and diverse tourism appeal to visitors around the world.  This sharing session will not only describe the nature and programme details of the Scheme, but will also help you understand the duties of a Hong Kong Young Ambassador, the positive impacts and experience gained through sharing by the Ambassadors.

認識香港多元文化社群 及 種族平等之路

Understanding Hong Kong Multi-cultural Community & Bridges to Equal and Easy Access

 

Objective:

At the end of the sharing session, students will be able to:

1. Understand the background of Hong Kong multi-cultural community and their characteristics;

2. Descibe the concept of service mainstreaming for multi-cultural community;

3. Grasp an understanding about the current enhanced support measures by government for multi-cultural community; and

4. Learn the vision of equal and easy access to public services.

 

Description:

Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Outreaching Team for Multi-Cultural Community (OTMC) aims at providing appropriate support services to the needy individuals of the Ethnic Minorities (EMs) and their families through reaching out and connecting with stakeholders in the community.  It is one of outreaching teams for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong and established in March 2020.

The team is formed by social workers and multi-cultural background staff.  They can speak in English, Urdu, Hindi and Nepali.  The scopes of Service include outreaching service, telephone enquiry, casework support and supportive groups.  Service targets are ethnic minorities (excluding Non-Refoulement Claimants) who live in Shatin, Tai Po, Northern District, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing.
