Description:
Dating may be one of the things that young people would like to pursue during university lives. Here is the great chance for you to understand more about yourself! This workshop provides e a great chance with you to understand how your attachment styles could influence your relationships. Moreover, you are able to gain a broader understanding on the essential components of love. Last but not the least, we will include music element (i.e. singing) during the talk.

Toastmasters Training for Public Speaking

Objective:
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the techniques required in English public speaking and refine it through constant practice
2. Develop competent listening and evaluation skills for the delivery of constructive feedback
3. Identify the resources and name the channels and opportunities available for students to develop as good communicators and leaders

 

Description:
The whole idea of Toastmasters Training is to develop students' English speaking skills effectively through delivering prepared and impromptu speeches in front of groups and by working with others in a supportive atmosphere. Participants are also involved in providing feedback and evaluation to one another's presentation. Students who are keen to acquire further qualifications in public speaking and leadership can join the Lingnan University Toastmasters Club as international member, joining speech contests and workshops, and continue to work on personal and professional development through Toastmasters education program: the Toastmasters Pathways learning experience.

3. Assist individuals in needs to seek for appropriate professional services or appropriate social resources.

Description::
‘Mental Health First Aid’ is originated from Australia. It is introduced to our organization in 2004. It is recognized by the ‘Mental First Aid International’ organization with signed document as the only authorized organization to train tutors, design programs and award certificates in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong Province. In the fast peace society, there is an increase in pressure in our daily life and work place. It is more common for metropolis people to experience mental health issues. The training program ‘Mental Health First Aid’ based on this need to teach participants to identify some common mental health issues and crisis. It also teaches some effective ways for people to primarily assist in some conditions before there are appropriate professional treatments received.

​​Growth Mindset: A Strategy to Beat Academic Stress

Objective:
At the end of the talk, students will be able to:​
1. Understand what is Growth Mindset and its scientific basis;
2. Develop a positive mindset towards life; and
3. Apply Growth Mindset in a new academic year for better adjustment.

Description:
Growth Mindset is based on the research by Carol Dweck, who is the professor of Psychology at Stanford University and has spent decades researching achievement and success. She found out students with a growth mindset are more likely to enjoy the process and continue working hard despite setbacks. Due to the COVID, numerous students struggle with the new learning pattern. In the light of such change, uTouch, as an online outreach team for youth, has prepared an online workshop featuring some emotional tips in the face of academic stress. The talk would illustrate the application of the growth mindset with gaming elements, so as to support students excel with higher motivation.

​​Breaking The Loop of Anxiety

Objective:
At the end of the talk, students will be able to:​
1. Understand the "Fight-or-Flight Response" affect our cognitive and affective functions;
2. Learn the latest scientific findings inspire us to respond to anxious feelings; and

Description:
The anxious feelings always undermine the effectiveness of revision and performance during exams, even though students spent so much time and efforts. Many students shared they yearn to "control" anxiety. However, unfortunately this mindset is the key factor to maintain or fuel anxiety. With reference to scientific studies, this sharing aims to respond students' general enquiry about academic anxiety, and to enhance their performance in revision and exams.

Movie Night Series
1. Find the movie online (in English) and watch it before the zoom session.
2. Join the zoom session at the given time via the link for the 1 hour follow up discussion.
3. During the discussion, you will be asked to complete a short quiz to check your knowledge about the movie. You must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly to be considered for the ILP units.

Human-Centered Innovation

Objective:

This program aims to cultivate the innovation and creative culture at Lingnan University. At the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

1. Learn the concept of human-centered design and develop a product or service for their club/society;

2. Learn an innovative way to solve certain social issues in the community

 

Description:

Human-centered innovation is a management method that develops solutions to problems by involving the human perspective, people in all steps of the problem-solving process.

Working with this method means that human involvement typically takes place in observing the problem within context, brainstorming, conceptualizing, developing, and implementing the solution.
