Common Core Arrangement 2018-19

Term 2 Arrangement

 

Starting from 2018-19 academic year, a new Core Curriculum structure will roll out at Year 1 level. In this transitional year, a mix of old and new Common Core courses are offered. It is vital that students pay careful attention to the appropriate Common Core pattern pertaining to their studies. An important message sheet is provided for easy reference of students and advisors.

 

In addition, the Senate meeting of 28 May 2018 approved the proposal for “A Structured Common Core Sequence” for implementation starting from the 2018-19 intake. Students will be assigned to take the designated Year 1 courses CCC8011 Critical Thinking: Analysis and Argumentation and CCC8012 The Making of Hong Kong in the freshmen year, and be assigned to take the designated Year 2 courses CCC8013 The Process of Science and CCC8014 China in World History in the second year (or the third year for senior intake students starting 2019-20). In view of the above changes, students are advised to take note of the following measures:

Current Students - Changing Section/Tutorial of Assigned Common Core courses within term

In light of the forthcoming online registration of current students commencing 31 Jul to 2 Aug 2018, students are allowed to apply for changing section/tutorial of the assigned Common Core courses within the same term ONE WEEK prior to the online registration period via an email link sent to their LU's email account. Students are required to provide sound justifications and clear proofs of evidence for submitting their application.

    All Students - Changing Section/Tutorial of Assigned Common Core courses

    All undergraduate students taking Common Core courses in 2018-19 are allowed to apply for changing section/tutorial via an email link sent to their LU’s email account. Application will be opened during the add/drop period of Term 1 and Term 2 respectively. Students are required to provide sound justifications and clear proofs of evidence for submitting their application.

    Applications received via e-form will be processed on a daily basis. Students should note that their requests for switching course section are subject to availability of seats. Applicants will be notified of the result (successful or unsuccessful) via email before noon of the next working day. In consideration of the large student size, each student will be allowed to submit ONE application only in each application period.


    Dropping Assigned Common Core course

    Only under exceptional circumstances that the Director of the CCGE will consider applications for dropping the assigned Common Core course. Sound justifications and supporting evidence from the Head of Department or Programme Director of the student concerned will be required. Applications can be submitted via email to ccgeo@ln.edu.hk.
