Postgraduate Programmes

(A) Research Postgraduate Studies


The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Programme in Social Sciences was launched in the 1995-1996 academic year, and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme in Social Sciences in the 2000-2001 academic year. Both MPhil and PhD Programmes require in-depth study in specific research areas in the Social Sciences.

The Faculty offers MPhil/PhD Programmes in Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and/or Social Policy.

There is a broad range of research areas in Social Sciences.

(B) Master of Science in International Banking and Finance (MIBF) Programme


The Department of Economics launched a full-time one-year taught Master of Science in International Banking and Finance (MIBF) Programme in the 2006-2007 academic year. Students can take a wide range of practical Banking, Finance and Economics courses from this Programme. (C) Master of Science in International and Development Economics (MIDE) Programme


The Department of Economics, the China Economic Research Programme (CERP) and PAN Sutong Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Policy Research Institute (PSEI) jointly offer the full-time one-year / part-time two-year taught Master of Science in International and Development Economics (MIDE) Programme (taught mainly in Putonghua). It focuses on the Belt and Road Initiaves and economic devlopment especially in the Greater Bay Area. MIDE graduates have the option to apply for a Double Masters Degree with the Faculty of Business, Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (GSCASS). (D) Master of Science in Work and Organizational Psychology (MWOP) Programme


The Department of Applied Psychology offers a full-time one-year taught Master of Science in Work and Organizational Psychology (MWOP) Programme. (E) Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP) Programme


The Department of Sociology and Social Policy offers a full-time one-year taught Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP) Programme. It is a unique programme which offers an applied international and comparative focus to the study of social policy, development, policy analysis and governance. The Department of Political Science offers the full-time one-year / part-time two-year taught Master of Arts in International Affairs (MAIA) Programme.
