In line with the mission of Lingnan University, the Faculty of Social Sciences is committed to providing internationally recognised liberal arts education. The Faculty encompasses four departments (viz. Department of Applied Psychology, Department of Economics, Department of Political Science, Department of Sociology and Social Policy). We aim to equip students with skills and values conducive to life-long learning and service for the community.

The Faculty offers intellectually diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At undergraduate level, our Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) Degree Programme is unique in Hong Kong in that it provides students with inter-disciplinary training and flexibility on the degree of specialisation. Students of first-year intake major in one of the four social sciences disciplines (Economics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology) or in the interdisciplinary stream, Social and Public Policy Studies. Apart from the options above, students of senior-year intake can also opt for majoring in International Economy and Politics Stream, Health and Social Services Management Stream, and Discipline Major in Psychology with Counselling Psychology Concentration.

With breadth and depth of vision, graduates are expected to develop a coherent intellectual base for understanding local, regional and global affairs from different academic perspectives. It is our goal that every graduate is able to demonstrate his/her desire and capacity for public service as a global citizen in rapidly changing social, cultural and economic environments.

At postgraduate level, our MPhil/PhD Programmes in Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and/or Social Policy attract students from all over the world. Many international students join our research postgraduate programmes through the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). For taught postgraduate programmes, we offer a variety of programmes including Master of Science in International Banking and Finance (MIBF) Programme, Master of Science in International and Development Economics (MIDE) Programme, Master of Science in Work and Organizational Psychology (MWOP) Programme, Master of Social Sciences in Organisational Psychology and Education Management (OPEM) Programme, Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP) Programme, and Master of Arts in International Affairs (MAIA) Programme. Our mission is to provide students with a solid theoretical background, as well as international and comparative perspectives to analyze social policy, development, work wellbeing, policy analysis and governance issues.
